Bacchae

New York Euripides Summer Festival

Actors with classical background are currently sought for the New York Euripides Summer Festival production of BACCHAE. Rehearsals start June 3, runs through the last week of June in the Broadway district and other Manhattan venues. Lorca Peress, director.

Cast Breakdown:

(Character types of all ethnicities).

Dionysus, cult guru, son of Zeus, god of pleasure, a stranger. Male-identifying 20-40;

Chorus, dancer-actors with strong voices. All types. Ability to use tambourines, drums or other percussion instruments a plus. May understudy another role. Female-identifying 20-60;

Teiresias, a blind seer of fluid sexuality, loyal to Cadmus. Presents as Male 50-70;

Cadmus, good-hearted grandfather of Dionysus and Pentheus. Founder of Thebes. Male 50-70;

Pentheus, arrogant cousin of Dionysus who opposes the god. Male 20-30;

Agave, mother of Pentheus, aunt of Dionysus. Vocal strength/dance required. Female 40-60;

Servant, a guard of Pentheus. Works with the chorus. May understudy. Ability to play percussion instruments a plus. Presents as Male 18-50;

First Messenger, a herdsman. Works with the chorus. May understudy. Ability to play percussion instruments a plus. Presents as Male 30-70;

Second Messenger, servant of Pentheus. Works with the chorus. May understudy. Ability to play percussion instruments a plus. Presents as Male 18-50;

Auditions held May 19 from 3:00-6:00 p.m. (studio 16-P) and May 20 from 2:00-6:00 p.m. (studio 10-A), both days at Ripley-Grier Studios, 520 Eighth Avenue, NYC. Local hires. Bring photo and résumé. Union/non-union performers. Sides will be provided and posted at the auditions. Prepared classical monologues acceptable. No audition appointments. Sign-up sheet posted ½ hour prior to each day of auditions. Must attend audition and be available for rehearsals in midtown from 5:00-9:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 12:00-6:00 p.m. Saturdays in June. Flexibility required for the last week in June. Carfare stipend provided for performers. Additional stipend for Performer/Prod. Assistants. Callbacks: May 23-25 from 5:00-8:00 p.m.
