SHOW DESCRIPTION:

Based on a true story that captured attention across social media, Straight Forward takes you on a journey of love, hope, and courage. Meet Mike and Garrett, two ordinary men who are roommates and best friends. But when one of them falls critically ill, their lives take an unexpected turn. As they navigate the challenges of illness, friendship, and identity, Mike and Garrett discover a deep connection that transcends labels and stereotypes. Their journey of self-discovery is set against the backdrop of a society that often misunderstands and marginalizes the LGBTQ+ community.

CASTING FOR:

Straight Forward is a two-person cast, both roles are open:

MIKE (mid-twenties, tenor):

An extremely hard worker, eyes set to the stars. Caught up with massive amounts of stress from post-graduate life and a highly demanding new job, Mike succumbs to after-work party life and turns to alcohol to cope, which ultimately catches up to him leading to a mysterious illness that leaves doctors stumped.

GARRETT (mid-twenties, tenor):

A quiet medical student, Mike’s roommate and best friend. When Mike gets sick, Garrett uses his skills and knowledge to care for him, taking him to doctor visits, picking up prescriptions, and keeping him company at home. Between his new job and caring for Mike, Garrett is also caught up in having too much to handle.

AUDITION PREP:

Please prepare 2 selections of 32 bars of a pop/rock musical theater or regular pop rock/indie song.

Selections should be contrasting and show range.

Accompanist will be provided.

SHOW HISTORY:

2015-2020 - Writing and development

2021 - Workshop and Staged Reading at Wagner College

2022 - Staged production at the New York Theater Festival

2023 - Fully staged production at Theatre Row
