MTEA Creates Representation Committee And Offers Free Webinar On Race, Equity And Inclusion In Musical Theatre

In June of 2020 the Musical Theatre Educators' Alliance (MTEA), an international organization of teachers and professionals, created a much-needed committee for Representation, Equity, and Inclusion (REI), led by MTEA's newly appointed Lead Diversity Officer, Tim Espinosa of Fullerton College.

The new American musical Allegiance officially opened last night, November 8, at the Longacre Theatre (220 West 48th Street, starring Tony and Olivier Award winner Lea Salonga (Miss Saigon, Les Miserables) in her long-awaited return to Broadway, 'Star Trek' icon George Takei in his Broadway debut at age 78, and Broadway and 'Glee' star Telly Leung. Allegiance is the vibrant and unforgettable story of one family's resilience in the face of seemingly-insurmountable odds, inspired by Takei's real-life experience as a Japanese American during World War II. Tony Award-winning composer Jason Robert Brown (Parade, 13, Songs for a New World) joined 2009 Ovation Award nominees Michael K. Lee and Filipino actress Jennifer Paz in a one-night-only performance of 2009 Ovation Award Best Musical nominee and Off-Broadway gem THE LAST 5 YEARS last Saturday, January 9, 2010 at the David Henry Wang Theatre, the home of East West Players, in downtown Los Angeles, California. Proceeds from the event will benefit Broadway Cares (BC)/Equity Fights AIDS (EFA).

Pacific Overtures cast recording on PS Classics

PS Classics will record the cast album of the new Broadway production of PACIFIC OVERTURES on February 1, and anticipates a May release. The production, presented by Roundabout Theatre Company (Todd Haimes, Artistic Director) in association with Gorgeous Entertainment (Kumiko Yoshii & Michael Wolk, Producers), began performances at Studio 54 on November 12, 2004, and plays through January 30, 2005.
