The White Plains Performing Arts Center

The White Plains Performing Arts Center will present the 16th Annual Summer Theatre Academy. Open to students in current grades K-10, the Summer Theatre Academy (STA) will present its first ever online Musical Theatre Intensive followed by three on-stage musicals this summer. The on-stage programs include two three-week sessions; one one-week session and a 4 day session all culminating in performances.

In response to Covid-19, WPPAC has been closely following the guidance of state and local health officials. WPPAC has developed plans and protocols to ensure that they can provide quality theatre education this summer in a safe, dynamic, and fun environment for all. In addition to their online classes, WPPAC is implementing policies for camps on site, including: limited camp sizes, twice daily cleanings of all facilities with regular disinfecting throughout the day, contact free temperature checks for campers and staff, outdoor classes and more.

Whether in-person or online, The Summer Theatre Academy is a unique program that combines theatre training with performance opportunities. Students in current grades K-10 train in acting, singing and dancing, participate in special guest workshops and take master classes with professional artists.

In their brand new Musical Theatre Intensive (MTI), digital campers will meet for 90-minute online classes in acting all from the comfort of their own home. MTI campers will sharpen their performance skills in our digital studio, receive individual feedback from professional instructors, and graduate with their very own actor reel.

For our in-person camps, students spend their days with Academy Staff, learning about acting, singing and dancing while rehearsing their production. Students learn to apply theatre techniques towards their performance. Each session culminates with performances on the WPPAC stage for a limited audience.

"WPPAC is deeply committed to quality theatre education. We have taken measures to ensure that ALL young theatre lovers have the opportunity to share their passion, gain new skills, and make amazing memories this summer in their online and in-person camps," said Sam Leichter, Camp Director for this year's Summer Theatre Academy. Shea's Performing Arts Center

Shea's Performing Arts Center has announced Shea's 2020 Virtual Summer Camps. Students of all ages will have the opportunity to train in acting, dance, and singing from the safety and comfort of their homes this summer with three different camps: Shea's Summer Musical Theatre Intensive, The Actor's Edge Summer Acting Intensive, and Theatre Camp for Grown-ups.

Shea's PAC summer classes were designed by Western New York actress, director, playwright, founder of Raíces Theatre Company, and Shea's teaching artist, Victoria Pérez, who will be teaching extensively during camp. More local instructors and special guest speakers will be announced soon.

"We've researched virtual programs across the country, surveyed our Shea's families, and consulted with other WNY arts organizations in order to design virtual summer programs that will be educational, safe, and fun," said Thembi Duncan, Director of Arts Engagement and Education at Shea's PAC. "Everyone is exhausted from watching screens, so we've created programs with a dynamic combination of live workshops, pre-recorded lessons, independent research, off-line practice, as well as dedicated social time."

Registration is now open for their summer programs:

San Diego Junior Theatre is the oldest youth theatre in the country with the mission of providing engaging innovative, high-quality theatre education and productions for children. Junior Theatre alumni attest to the profound impact that the program has had on their careers, regardless of their chosen professions.

"Camp this year is incredibly exciting," says Levi Kaplan, Director of Education at Junior Theatre. "Faced with trying to connect while keeping our distance, our artists are embracing the challenge and saying 'Yes, and...' Creativity will rise to the challenge!"

Chicago Children's Theatre

Chicago Children's Theatre is encouraging a summer of fun and creative learning with this week's launch of its summer 2020 education session, starting with two dozen virtual performing arts camps and classes for ages 2 to 13, all taught remotely.

Starting August 3, Chicago Children's Theatre intends to bring back in-person camps at their West Loop home, The Station, 100 S. Racine St.

The safety and well-being of students is CCT's top priority, so in-person camps will be held only after the city successfully enters Phase 4 of Chicago's reopening plans, and in careful compliance with the latest health, safety and social distancing mandates.

Registration is open at chicagochildrenstheatre.org for virtual and in-person camps, as well as virtual classes in clowning, music, puppet building, playwriting, and more. Reserve early as space is limited.

Chicago Children's Theatre plans to make an announcement in late June regarding in-person camps in August and September. If you register for an in-person camp that's canceled due to COVID-19, refunds will be offered.

Virtual summer camps and classes are already happening, register now!

A super cool roster of one-week camps will start remotely on June 22. All kids need is a smart device with the Zoom app, their imagination, and simple, easily found craft materials from around the house. CCT teaching artists will lead campers through writing, rehearsing and filming camps throughout the week. Performances will be edited together for a screening for parents, family, and friends to watch together via Zoom. The video will be given to families at the end of the week as a keepsake.

"Summer camps and classes at Chicago Children's Theatre are a healthy mix of online group instruction with offline work to get kids' creativity flowing and everyone out from in front of the screen," said Dexter Ellis, Director of Education and Community Programming, Chicago Children's Theatre. "We were one of the first theaters in the country to test our virtual learning model over spring break and did so with much success. Since then, we've made some "fine-tuning" adjustments and are eager to share and connect families across Chicago and beyond."

"We are so thankful to have found your theater program and to have been able to join remotely via Zoom," wrote a parent of a CCT virtual spring break camper. "Your staff is exceptional and provided so much joy and a sense of normalcy by creating a way for the kids to create, socialize, learn and work together. Thank you for finding a way to have the teachers organized and energized to teach, bring happiness, and continue to give the kids something to work on and enjoy!"
